1). Puppies: Puppies are pretty much my life. One (grown-up) puppy in particular, my dog Peekie! Peekie is pretty much the best dog ever. He's a very manly Pekingnese, a bit like Danny Devito or Joe Pesci in my opinion. My own wonderful puppy aside, I just love dogs. The good thing about living in NYC is there are so many adorable dogs everywhere. I doubt they all like wearing sweaters though!
2). Freaks and Geeks: You might not have been a Freak or a Geek in high school, but anyone who's ever felt awkward (and we all have!) can enjoy this show. I absolutely loved it in high school and was overjoyed when Omar got it for me for a present last year. If you like Judd Apatow movies as well, it's great to watch and see some of the actors in their pre-fame days, like Seth Rogen, Jason Segel and James Franco.
3). Kaleido Star: Most people know that I love anything empowering. I love empowering songs, movies, tv shows, etc. This anime is one of the first series Omar showed to me--about a girl who beats the odds to become the best performer in a Cirque de Soleil type show. Kaleido Star makes you feel happy and empowered at the same time! It's a perfect show to watch if you're having one of those days where everything seems to be going wrong.
4). Prisons: Yes, it should seem weird that my boyfriend associates me with "prisons" but it's actually not given the amount of literature and tv I've asked him to read/watch (and that he enjoyed I'm happy to report!) on the subject. It's common knowledge at this point that the U.S. has a prison overcrowding problem, but not everyone knows why. I spent a lot of time reading up on this subject throughout college, and it's something I think everyone should read up on at least a little bit, because draconian sentencing for certain crimes has ravaged entire communities and generations of children growing up with incarcerated parents. I highly recommend Going Up the River: Travels in a Prison Nation. It was written a few years ago, but is still relevant today, particularly in light of the recent California court decision ordering that the prison population must be reduced somehow. (Sadly, I'm not that informed on this, as law school sucks ass. and sucks away my time. ha.) Oh and yes, I am an Oz fan.
5). Monkeys: What can I say? I've been collecting them for years! I think they're adorable (oh, and Apes, too haha) At this point I have so many they're mostly at home because I just didn't have the room for dozens of monkeys in dorms/small apartments. I would totally have a real monkey too if they didn't bite and have diseases etc etc etc.
In other news for anyone I didn't tell I got a summer job working at Mental Hygiene Legal Service, 2nd Department, in one of their Brooklyn offices. I will be advising mentally ill patients of their legal rights and doing some guardianship work. I'm really excited!
The trailer for the movie The Namesake (based on Jhumpa Lahiri's novel) is out, and I'm super-excited even though I didn't like the book that much. It was good, just not quite as good as Interpreter of Maladies, her first book. Since that won the Pulitzer Prize she had one hell of an act to follow.
But either way Kal Penn from Harold & Kumar is in it so I think that's reason enough (he looks quite adorable in this movie!) to go see it!! The movie looks good so watch the trailer!

I saw a guy wearing one of these: http://www.comcast.net/news/national/ind
I was all like "Ohh my god your shirt is so cute!!!!"
He was all like "Ha. You know what it means?"
Me: "Umm a cute snowman?"
Him: "It means cocaine."
Well, I felt a little stupid. But I stand by my opinion. The shirt was really cute!!
Either way, I thought it was funny when I saw it on comcast news.

But I must say this! I'm normally not a Taco Bell fan--but the new "Supreme Crunch Wrap" is like...well, the best thing ever!! And I know I say a lot of things are the "best thing ever" but...you just gotta believe me on this one. It. is. so. good.
In other news, I'm getting used to working in the juniors department at Kohl's, and it's really not so bad. It's tiring, but not horrible. And the girl I work with most of the time, Stephanie, is actually pretty cool, so it's fun to work/hang out with her.
My parents went to see Howl's Moving Castle and really liked it. My dad liked Spirited Away better though. I did too, since the story was more consistent, but Howl's was still a wonderful movie:-D So I was glad they went to see/enjoyed it. When I came home from work the other night, my mom exclaimed "Elizabeth, your dad and I just saw Howl's Walking House!!"
Haha. My mom is so....weird:-p
I can't believe it's already July!
I also can't believe I'm working on the 4th. Ick!!
Anyway--Happy 4th of July everybody!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday, however, I had a break in the monotony. I'm also doing an internship for a non-profit organization, The Criminal Justice Policy Coalition, on the side, and they asked me to attend a hearing.
This hearing concerned CORI (Criminal Offender Registry Information) and CORI allows all employers and housing authorities to have access to criminal records. Because of this, it's extremely difficult for ex-felons to get jobs, housing, etc; hence, recidivism occurs. This hearing was to reform CORI, and I got to attend a press conference as well as the hearing.
The press conference, to me, was powerful, moreso than the hearing itself was. Several former prisoners spoke, two of which I chatted with at length afterward, and I was amazed at how nice and normal they really were...and that because of crimes the committed years ago (many of these people were released in the late 80s/early 90s) they're still homeless and jobless.
So it was quite the experience for someone like me, who as most of you know, is interested in the criminal justice system and prison reform, etc. So it was a welcome break in my Kohls-ariffic life!
Anyway...that's all for now:-p

Alright, I'm seriously beginning to think there is an anti-pesto conspiracy!! For a long time, it feels like maybe, two months at least, Stop n' Shop has failed to provide its gracious customers with Amy's Pesto tortellini. Now Kim introduced me to this pesto, and let me tell you it's like....well it's the best thing ever!! Now today, Heather was in town and I went to Zanaro's with her and her mom. Naturally I ordered the pesto tortellini. And what happens? The waiter comes up to me five minutes later and informs me that there is no pesto tortellini. They do not have it anymore.
So I ordered something else and it was still very nice, but I'm just wondering what's going on....it's like the world's pesto tortellini is rapidly disappearing!
Something must be done.
Because I want some damn pesto tortellini!!

So yesterday
johnathan_ender and I went to
shinibadtzmaru8's house, and it was quite fun! We showed Fred Shaun of the Dead and he showed us, City of God. City of God is probably one of the best movies I've ever seen. Hopefully I'll be able to buy it this week. Over the break I'll show it to my whole family. Well, probably just my dad actually....because it doesn't seem like something my mom and/or sister would like to watch. But Kathy, you know the offer's open!!
But yeah, anyone who hasn't seen this movie--I'm gonna make you watch it as soon as I buy it!!
I'm feeling strangely achy today. I have a feeling it may be these clunky, old, six inch brown shoes of mine. So I suppose I should take the damn things off. Ehhh. Whatever. Maybe I'm just coming down with something. Everyone seems at least a little bit sick these days. Normally I'd blame it one Winter, but it's been so beautiful lately, I don't think that's a sufficient explanation.
But at least I know I'm not getting the flu, since I'm one of the lucky individuals who was blessed with a chronic illness. There are maybe two times in one's life when asthma is a great thing to have--gym class, so you can use it as an excuse, and when it's time to get a flu shot and there's a shortage.
But then there was that one year it wore off and I got it in August...
But anyway, I need to lie down, cause I still feel achy and such.
Later all.

YOUR FRESHMAN YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL
[What year was it?]
1999-2000
[What were your three favorite bands?]
Well I'm gonna say Rent even though it's a musical, cause I was always listening to it. And then there was also my other favorite musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I also loved The Counting Crows.
[What was your favorite outfit?]
Jeans that were looser, a lot more sweaters, and this ugly teal fleece jacket.
[What was up with your hair?]
Uggh. I had BANGS. To cover my acne. Ewww.
[Who was your best friend?]
Why, Laura of course! Laura I miss you!
[What did you do after school?]
There was always voice and piano. Then there was playing the piano for fun, at bizarre hours of the day--sorry, bout that Kathy. And of course there was lots and lots of TV watching, at my house, and at Laura's. And I read a lot. Also I was in the school play that year, and in the drama club.
[Where did you work?]
No job. I got one sophomore year though....at a country club of all places.
[Did you take the bus?]
Three times a week or so. Other days I was late, and my mom had to drive me. My poor mom.
[Who did you have a crush on?]
Mmmmm. Andy Lucas. He was a gorgeous senior. And he gave me a hug!!
[Did you fight with your parents?]
Ohh yeah. I was a total brat back then. I feel bad about it, I put my parents through a hell of a lot.
[Who did you have a CELEBRITY crush on?]
Morgan Freeman. I know he was a bit old for me....but I loved him so much in Shawshank!!
[Did you smoke cigarettes?]
Haha. No way.
[Did you lug all of your books around in your backpack all day because you were too nervous to find your locker?]
Yeah I lugged 'em around. I knew where my locker was though. I just didn't wanna go back and forth to it all day.
[Did you have a 'clique'?]
Nahh. Not really, man.
[Did you have a "Max" like Zach Kelly and Slater?]
Ohh yeah!! Islington Pizza all the way!! And Friendly's at the Dedham Plaza.
[Admit it, were you popular?]
No way! I liked being in the background.
[Who did you want to be just like?]
I don't really remember. I just wanted to be fabulously famous!!
[What did you want to be when you grew up?]
An actress--that was before I discovered I can't act.
[Where did you think you'd be at the age you are now?]
I thought I'd be in college, somewhere in the NYC area. I never thought I'd want to go to law school though.
[What advice would you give your freshman self?]
Kid, your mom's a wonderful woman--but don't take her fashion advice--and don't ever borrow her clothes. Also, don't worry about silly stuff like not having a boyfriend. The men'll come soon enough! And for the love of god, do your homework for once in your life. Don't keep thinking you'll go far in life without having to work!

Not past twelve. And that will only be on weekends. Got that? Nobody let me sleep past twelve on weekends.
In fact, I feel like a total idiot for sleeping in so late all the time.
In high school, I never slept in. The latest I ever slept was 9 am. I'm serious. And then I felt guilty about sleeping in that late.
So I'm not gonna be a lazy ass who sleeps in all the time anymore.
I guess this was spawned by the dream I had, when I fell back asleep at 11:30 am or so.
And let me tell you--it was the scariest dream I've EVER had. I'm being entirely serious here. I woke up at maybe 2:00 pm, and now, an hour later, I still feel shaken by the damn thing.
I haven't felt like myself this entire weekend, so maybe that dream was the culmination of it...or something...
Anyway....
See you guys later.

I've had all my new classes, and they all seem decent so far. Two of my professors, Yim and Piccolo, are extremely hard to hear. So I guess I'll have to get there early and sit in the front.
My poetry workshop teacher is one of those artist-hippie types. But then, what can you expect with poets anyway? Not to stereotype of course! But by the end of the class I actually ended up liking her quite a bit, so that was nice.
My Intro to Political Thought teacher has hair made out of steel wool, or so it appears. For most of the class I sat there trying to imagine what it must be like to comb it. So I didn't pay too much attention. What I did pay attention to in that class is the fact that we have to do a debate. And this debate will be worth 30% of our grade.
So I'm not looking forward to that all that much. I know I have to improve my debating skills if I want to be a lawyer--but 30%--man, that's a lot of pressure!!
And of course Pauley's class was good, the usual. Except there's a Micheal Harris-esque kid in the class, who reaaaaaally pissed me off.
So it's been a good few days back here. I miss Peekie a hell of a lot though. I only felt homesick for this one moment on Monday when I had a headache and a stomachache. But hey, what are ya gonna do.
Anyway, now I must clean this pit. Otherwise known as my room!

01. Reply with your name and I will write something about you.
02. I will then tell you what song[s] remind me of you. (Or I'll try, at least.)
03. Next, I will tell you who you remind me of, celebrity/animated or otherwise.
04. Last, i will try to name a single word that best describes you.
05. Put this in your journal as well, if you want to play.
I want everyone who reads this to ask me 4 questions. Any 4, no matter how personal, dirty, private, or random. I have to answer them honestly. In turn, you have to post this message in your own journal and you have to answer the questions that are asked to you.
